Dünyaca

Burda, Hindistan'da, Afrika'da,
Her sey birbirine benzemektedir.
Burda, Hindistan'da, Afrika'da,
Bugdaya karsi sevgi ayni,
Ölüm önünde düsünce bir.

Nece konusursa konussun,
Anlasilir gözlerinden dedigi.
Nece konusursa konussun,
Benim duydugum rüzgarlardir,
Dinledigi.

Biz insanlar ayri ayri kalmisiz,
Bölmüs saadetimizi çizgisi yurtlarin;
Biz insanlar ayri ayri kalmisiz,
Gökte kuslarin kardesligi,
Yerde kurtlarin.

- Fazil Hüsnü Daglarca -

Übersetzung Englisch:

Worldwide

Here in India or in Africa
All things resemble each other.
Here or in India or in Africa
We feel the same love for grains.
Before death we tremble together.

Whatever tongue he may speak,
His eyes will utter the meaning.
Whatever tongue he may speak,
I hear the same winds
That he is gleaning.

We humans have fallen apart.
Boundaries of land split our mirth.
We humans have fallen apart.
Yet birds are brothers in the sky,
And wolves on the earth.

Übersetzung Deutsch:

Über die Welt

Hier, in Indien und in Afrika
Gleicht jedes doch dem andern.
Hier, in Indien und in Afrika,
Die gleiche Liebe zum Korn,
Nur ein Gedanke vorm Tod

Es rede einer, was er nur mag,
Aus seinen Augen versteht man ihn.
Es rede einer, was er nur mag,
Was ich vernehme, die Winde sind´s,
Die er gehört.

Getrennt voneinander wir Menschen hier,
Unser Glück zerteilen der Länder Grenzen.
Im Himmel der Vögel Brüderlichkeit
In der Erde, der Würmer.

At night and shudder?
Death can destroy what you might live,
Not what you have lived.

To be blue
Or the night?
Men grow old and never find out.

Çanakkale'de Ölüm

Sen ölüm,
Evlerde pissin ama,
Daglarda igrençsin.

Sen ölüm,
Birinin adi silinir de,
Adin geçer ancak.

Sen ölüm,
Eli tutmaz olur da, gözü görmez olur da
Tutarsin, görürsün oralarda ancak.

Sen ölüm,
Ülkelerde kötüsün ya
Ülkelerarasi daha çirkinsin.

Sen ölüm,
Sayriliklardan sonra gelirsin peki,
Su dev gibi, su dipdiri gençlerle isin nedir?

Death at the Dardanelles

You, death,
You are filthy in homes,
But disgusting on the hills.

You, death,
Your name is mentioned only
When someone's name is wiped off.

You, death,
When hands are paralysed and eyes go blind,
Then your hand holds and your eyes see.

You, death,
You are evil in nations,
But uglier among the nations.

You, death,
You follow in the wake of illness.
What then do you want from healthy gigantic lads?

Korkulugun Korkusu

Sen korkutursun
Küçücük kuslari
Bahçelerde sabahtan aksama dek

Ama gelince kocaman gökler geceleyin
Üstüne dogru
Senin korktugunu duyarim.

Scarecrow Scared

You scare
The tiny birds away
In the orchards from sunrise to sunset.

But at night when the huge skies
Swoop down on you,
I feel you are scared.

Bir Memet Daha

Topraktan mi çikti yari toprak bir yaratik,
Gökten mi indi yari gök bir kartal.
Bir Memet daha var oldu o sira,
Tepenin dorugunda kalpagi al.

Bir Memet oldugu besbelli,
Saçlari basakta, gözleri çiçekte.
Elleri ayaklari öylesin kocaman,
Yüzü alti Memet'in yüzüne öylesin benzemekte.

Vardi üç adimda masalcana,
Agzi duman tüten makineliye, dev.
Kabzeyi kavrar kavramaz basti tetige
Fiskirdi namludan sonsuz bir alev.

Allah Allah, sasti bütün daglar, bütün gök,
Sasti dost düsman.
Bu kimdir, bu kaçinci Memet'tir,
Ölülerde dirilerde dondu kan.

Görsen efsane, görmesen efsane,
Duysan efsane.
Uzak midir bayraktan düsen,
Yakin midir ne?

Bir parilti bir parilti tarihten,
Tanrica dik.
Yurdun ulusun kutsal gücü,
Bu yedinci Memet, Memetcik.

One More Unknown Hero

Did a half-earth creature jut out of the ground?
Did a half-sky eagle swoop down at a snap?
One more unknown hero came to life
On the hill's crest, with a crimson cap.

Clearly another unknown soldier,
His hair in spikes, his eyes in the flower's throes ...
His hands and feet were enormous.
His face was the face of six other fallen heroes.

A giant, a living legend, he took three steps
And seized the machine-gun with its smouldering spout.
Grasping the butt, he pulled the trigger,
And an endless flame gushed out.

God Almighty, mountains and skies stood in awe,
Our friends and foes.
Who is this, which doomed hero?
The blood of the dead and the living froze.

He is a legend if you see him or not,
A legend, you hear.
Is what falls off the flag
Far or near?

Upright like God,
Out of history, a deathless glow ...
The sacred might of the land and the nation,
The seventh Memet, the seventh unknown hero.

Samsun'dan Ankara'ya

- Ordunun silahlari alinmis
ve alinmakta

Atim acindan hasta, çalmislar kilicimi,
Üsürüm.
Içimde silah sesleri,
Sabaha kadar, tövbe tövbe,
Gecelerle dövüsürüm.

Kabzelerim vardi paril paril,
Altin elmas.
Getirmistim ta Orta Asyadan,
Ta bati Avrupa hayran olmustu,
Kalmis agirliklarinca avuçlarimda yas.

Hepsi bir baska biçimdeydi,
Ama kardesti tüfekle yay.
Onlarla yasamam hizlanirdi,
Duyulurdu suyun ekmegin lezzeti daha hos,
Daha kolay.

Çalmislar kilicimi,
Vaktim bir atesle kizillasir önce.
Sonra tarihler tarihler döger içimizdekileri,
O kadar hafif, o kadar yalin,
Kilinç olur düsünce.

From Samsun to Ankara

- The army was being divested of
its weapons.

My horse is ailing with hunger, my sword is stolen,
The cold bites.
Weapons rattle in my heart.
Till daybreak, in remorse and sorrow,
I fight the nights.

My butts had gold and diamonds
For ornament.
I brought them from Central Asia
To dazzle Western Europe.
Now my hands weigh down with their lament.

They all had different shapes,
But the rifle and the bow were brothers.
They gave my life its mad speed,
And made water and bread taste better,
And easier than the others.

My sword was stolen.
My time turned crimson when the flames gored.
Epoch after epoch beat the anvil of our hearts.
So light and naked,
The mind becomes the sword.

Inönüler

- Savunan yurt.

Susamis, analara, ogullara, kizlara kardesim,
Su,
Susamis vakte.

Durmaz biz dursak bile vatanda,
Otlarin kurusu,
Ekinlerin yasi hiç.

Kurmus mu diyorsun ölümümüz,
Daha büyük bir ölüme pusu,
Kelime-i sahadetlerle yükselen daglarda?

Ahaca birikmis yüzlerce yil,
Arzusu
Bu toprakta yasayan seylerin.

The Inonu Battles

- The land in defense.

Brother, the land thirsts for mothers, sons and daughters.
Dire,
Water thirsts for time.

Even if we flinch in this land of ours,
Dry grass will aspire,
And wet crops will dart forward.

Do you say death set a trap for a bigger death
On the mountains which rise higher
With the pledge of our faith?

Look, they have joined hands
In desire,
All the things that lived here for centuries.

Sivasli Karinca

Koca Kizilirmak köpüre köpüre
Akiyordu,
Bir telgraf diregi dibinde,
Zamanlar kadar telassiz ve köpüksüz,
Yürüyordu,
Sivasli bir karinca.

Karsi kiyidan parlak,
Kisniyordu,
Atlar doru doru,
Atlarin sarkisindan ayrilmis,
Yürüyordu,
Atlarin mesafesini anlamaz.

Sesi, adimlarinin sesi, memnun ve bahtiyar,
Duyuluyordu,
Kahraman.
Bir açligin ayaklarinca aziz,
Yürüyordu
Yeryüzünden.

Rahat gidisinden belli,
Biliyordu,
Dagi, suyu, otlari, lezzetle.
Baska karincalardan kopmus,
Yürüyordu,
Baska karincalara.

Gayretle, çalismakla, yorulmazlikla,
Benziyordu,
Afrika'dakine, Çin'dekine, Paris'tekine,
Kara topragin alni üstünde, kara,
Yürüyordu,
Alin yazisindan daha hür.

Yoktu fikirlerden, davalardan haberi,
Yürümüyordu,
Rüyasi hiç.
Bugday tanesi üzre,
Yürüyordu,
Sivasli bir karinca.

Ant from Sivas

The mighty Red River surged
Swirling in foam.
At the bottom of a telegraph pole,
Unhurried and foamless as the ages,
Marched
An ant from Sivas.

Glistening from the opposite bank,
Horses
Neighed all day.
Leaving behind the song of the horses,
It marched
Ignorant of the distances they trot.

Its voice, the sound of its steps,
Could be heard cheerful and happy
And heroic.
Blessed as the feet of craving,
It marched
On the face of the earth.

Its easy pace proved
It knew
The flavour of hills, brooks and weeds.
Breaking from the other ants
It marched
Towards the other ants.

In toil and untiring effort,
It resembled
The ones in Africa, China and Paris.
Black on the black soil's forehead,
It marched
Freer than destiny.

It knew nothing of ideas or issues.
Its dream
Walked not at all.
On a grain of wheat
It marched,
The ant from Sivas.

Yenilen Büyür

Iste karanlik büyümüstür,
Dag daha dag
Su daha su
Yildiz daha yildiz olmustur ötelerde.
Iste karanlik büyümüstür,
Ellerin
Ayaklarin
Soluklarin karasi,
Göklere, göklerin karasina karismistir kocaman.
Iste karanlik büyümüstür,
Yarali atlarin kisnemeleri
Geri çekilen toplarin gicirtisiyla büyümüstür yusyuvarlak.
Uzaklarda
Izmirden çok uzaklarda
Iste karanlik büyümüstür,
Iste gözlerini örtmüstür yenilen.

The Vanquished Grow

There darkness has grown.
Hill is more hill,
Water more water,
Stars more starry in the distance.
There darkness has grown.
The black stain
Of hands
And feet
And breath
Blends huge into the sky, into the sky's black blotch.
There darkness has grown.
The braying of wounded horses
Has grown big and round in the creak of the retreating cannons.
Far away,
Remote from Izmir,
Darkness has grown,
And the vanquished have covered their eyes.
